ACLC Weekly Roundup (February 25th – March 1st)

Hi ACLC students!

We hope you had a restful reading week. There are some exciting things happening in the ACLC world…

1) ACLC online. There are many ways for ACLC students to connect online. Join the ACLC student Facebook group (set-up by ACLC student rep, Alex MacIsaac [aomacisaac@upei.ca]) and check out the ACLC student website (also thanks to Alex!). Our social media student rep, Elmira Moghimi (emoghimi@upei.ca), has created a new look for our social media which you’ll see soon.

2) ACLC stories. ACLC student, Katie Clark (keclark2@upei.ca), is collecting your stories about your ACLC experience (see her message below). These stories will appear on social media and other ACLC promotional materials to help get the word out about ACLC. This is an opportunity to be an ACLC spokesperson. Get in touch with Katie to find out more.

Hello All,

I like to believe the ACLC program helps students find their voice. There is a project I luckily have been given the opportunity to pursue, and the project is about you.

With your permission and interest, we are collecting stories to showcase the diverse range of students within the ACLC program.

If you hold any interest in participating in this project, my email is keclark2@upei.ca.

The time commitment to the project will be less than 1 hour. Give me a shout, and I’ll provide you with all the details!

Thank you,

Katie Clark.

3) Creative Writing I (English 2120) will be offered next fall on Wednesday evenings 6:00-9:00. The instructor is TBA. As a workshop-based course, enrolment is limited to 12 students.

As always, the English Department looks forward to students who are majoring in programs other than English — such as yours! Indeed, our most recent success story, Chris Bailey — who launched his first poetry book in Toronto and Charlottetown last fall — is an Honours Psych graduate.

You can apply by submitting a portfolio:

– 10-20 pages of fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, and/or creative non-fiction — typed and double space, except for poetry (single space)

– name and e-mail address

Address portfolio to Prof. Richard Lemm and leave in his English department mailbox.

4) Advanced Public Speaking with Bruce Rainnie

This Public Speaking workshop will be for students who have already done a workshop with Bruce. The workshop will on Friday, March 15, 1pm to 4pm, in K. C. Irving Chemistry Centre, rm. 104). More details and registration to follow!

5) There will be an ACLC social soon! Stay tuned.

6) Feel free to share news and events with me (kscarth@upei.ca) that could be of interest to ACLC students. Phoebe Murphy (pbmurphy@upei.ca) and Abi Ong (ojen@upei.ca) are the student reps in charge of events so feel free to reach out to them too.
