Director’s Message

Welcome to the Centre for Korean Studies (CKS) in the Faculty of Arts, University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI),Charlottetown, Canada.

The CKS is an international research centre for Korean Studies (KS), the very first of its kind in the history of all universities in eastern Canada. It was established in spring 2024. In the coming months and years, the CKS will promote and produce world-class research, publication, conferences, speaker series lectures, interdisciplinary KS teaching support, student scholarship and research mentorship, and KS international academic-cultural events.

With respect to the UPEI Faculty of Arts as well, the Centre will actively reach out to interested members of cognate departments (e.g., Religious Studies, History, Philosophy, Pol Sci, Modern Languages, Economics, Music, etc.) or those in other Faculties for potential interdisciplinary research activities; this collaboration will include those who have written their letters of support to create this Centre. The UPEI CKS will also endeavour to become a top-notch international hub for global KS research, scholarship, and teaching by means of connecting to and collaborating with other Canadian, American, Korean, or East Asian universities having their KS institutes/centres. Thank you for visiting this website.

With best wishes,

Edward Y. J. Chung, PhD
Founding Director, CKS
Director, Asian Studies Program and Professor, Department of Religious Studies
