{"id":1552,"date":"2017-04-05T16:57:14","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T16:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/climate\/?page_id=1552"},"modified":"2017-04-11T14:27:37","modified_gmt":"2017-04-11T14:27:37","slug":"clive","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/climate\/clive\/","title":{"rendered":"CLIVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CLIVE (CoastaL Impacts Visualization Environment) is a leading-edge climate change impacts visualization tool.\u00a0 It combines historical erosion data, IPCC model projections of future sea-level rise, aerial imagery, and high-resolution digital elevation data to develop analytical visualizations of coastal erosion and future sea-level-rise scenarios.\u00a0 By utilizing 3D game engine technology, CLIVE is able to communicate serious scientific information in a manner that is intuitive and immersive.\u00a0 Users can fly around the 3D environment using a videogame controller; select different erosion and sea-level rise scenarios; and navigate from any perspective, at any scale, to observe the changes to the environment over time.\u00a0 CLIVE\u2019s ability to allow citizens to view scientific data and explore climate change projects within their communities helps them understand the real impacts of these often abstract phenomena.<\/p>\n<p>The effectiveness of CLIVE in educating citizens and raising awareness has helped it garner national and international attention including national text journalism (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/news\/national\/smallest-province-getting-smaller\/article16988070\/\" target=\"_blank\">Globe and Mail<\/a>); national Canadian broadcast coverage from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (e.g., World Report radio, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/thenational\/when-climate-change-hits-home-1.3886672\" target=\"_blank\">The National with Peter Mansbridge<\/a>), international journal coverage (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.com\/2015\/12\/151214-lennox-island-canada-climate-change-erosion\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Geographic<\/a>), and international television coverage (e.g., <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/climate\/2015\/01\/25\/al-jazeera-profiles-upei-climate-lab\/\" target=\"_blank\">Al Jazeera media<\/a>).\u00a0 CLIVE has also earned awards in PEI and abroad.\u00a0 The team that created CLIVE won an international award in 2014 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/climatecolab.org\/contests\/2014\/communicating-coastal-risk-and-resilience\/c\/proposal\/1309316\" target=\"_blank\">Massachusetts Institute of Technology for Communicating Coastal Risk and Resilience<\/a>.
