The Institute of Island Studies (IIS) is a research, education, and public policy institute based at the University of Prince Edward Island. It is administered within the Faculty of Arts and reports to the UPEI Vice-President Academic and Research.
The IIS operates under the direction of an Executive Committee. A separate Advisory Committee provides advice and guidance to the Executive. The roles and responsibilities of each can be found in a Purpose and Procedures document (updated in April 2016).
The IIS’s work is guided by a Vision Statement: to be the leading centre of excellence on issues related to island studies scholarship, public policy, and engagement. How this vision is achieved can be found in the Strategic Plan (2016-21).
