{"id":653,"date":"2020-05-05T14:53:26","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T17:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/mais\/?page_id=653"},"modified":"2021-04-14T14:00:58","modified_gmt":"2021-04-14T17:00:58","slug":"poetry-by-clay-appell","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/mais\/sails-tales\/poetry-by-clay-appell\/","title":{"rendered":"Sails &amp; Tales | Poetry \u2013 Clay Appell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:52px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Winter Isle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cold and dark; exposed and sullen<br>Snow drifts higher than sand dunes<br>Locals hibernate and find solace in one another\u2019s company<br><br>Inside the kettle whistles; outside the wind follows suit<br>The dog and cat become restless\u2014they want out!<br>The cold air migrates into old homes<br><br>It is March now and we all yearn for Spring<br>Will it come in like a lamb or a lion?<br><br>The sea looks uninviting<br>Come May it will sparkle and tempt the hardiest islanders <br>It is dreary and frigid, yet oddly majestic<br>No tourists occupy the narrow downtown streets<br>Soon enough spring will come<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manufactured Isle&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Days go slow<br><br>Will I sleep tonight?<br><br>The invisible killers lurk in the shadows<br>We all await the latest update\u2014change is inevitable<br><br>Let\u2019s hold hands around the dinner table, like old times<br>Then later we can check our smartphones<br><br>Homes become islands\u2014are they paradises or prisons?<br>Are we sheltered or trapped?
