Welcome to our website about the exciting programs and research taking place in Nunavut. In partnership with the Department of Education, Government of Nunavut, we offer both a Master of Education program and a Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN).
This MEd program is the result of a very unique partnership between UPEI and the Government of Nunavut. It is the first ever graduate program to be offered in Nunavut! This allows students to stay in their home communities while they pursue a Masters degree. It also allows students to study in a bilingual and bicultural environment, using both Inuktitut and English. This unique environment was created through a teaching style which used two or more co-instructors for each course. Some classes also included visiting instructors or special guest speakers, such as local elders and leaders, who gave additional perspective on course material. The content of every course was specifically tailored to focus on the issues and topics that are relevant to Nunavut. In addition, a full time counsellor was present during each class throughout the program, helping students manage the challenges of graduate studies, while they were still working, and participating in family and community life.
