She wonders how they can be motivated to complete their education. Jessie\u00a0reflected on her own school experiences and gathered information from five of her former\u00a0Grade 3 students, now in Grade 10. She heard that high school was difficult. Students told her\u00a0that more hands-on work and connection with Inuit ways could help; Elders in the classroom\u00a0and good Inuit counsellors were important. Jessie envisages inclusive sports activities and music, greater exposure to the \u201creal learning environment\u201d outside school, and learning to\u00a0\u201cshare, appreciate and accept other cultures but live your own.\u201d Teachers must be leaders who\u00a0keep the needs and well-being of children clearly in focus and \u201cstand firm like the tent I was\u00a0born in, with strong rocks to keep it from falling.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How Can Inuit Students be Motivated to Complete\u00a0their High School Education?
