As a high school teacher, Shuvinai Mike worried about the number of grade ten students who failed to graduate: \u201cIt breaks my heart when I see students struggling\u00a0in the same grade for two or three years.\u201d Her concern persists in her present position as\u00a0the Director of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit<\/em> at the Department of Culture, Language, Elders\u00a0and Youth and led to her research question, \u201cAre they dropouts or push outs?\u201d Shuvinai\u00a0speculates that the Anglo culture of high school, \u201cwith its differences in communication\u00a0styles between home and school,\u201d as well as the practice of streaming students, are\u00a0major factors.
