In accordance with all requirements and guidelines specified in the UPEI Centres Policy and its Appendix A, the CKS shall be managed properly and transparently as follows. In accordance with the Centres Policy: Appendix A-IV (Constitutions\/By-Laws), the Centre
a) is governed by \u201cthe pertinent regulations of the Senate,\u201d
b) \u201cwill maintain liaison with the University\u201d according to \u201cthe procedures that are specified in its by-laws,\u201d and
c) will submit its report annually or every two years according to the regular schedule and guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CKS consists of and is managed by the Centre Director and five or six members of the Centre Advisory Committee including the Director.1<\/a><\/sup> These Arts faculty members shall be members of the Asian Studies Coordinating Committee as well.2<\/a><\/sup> All 5\u20136 members of the Advisory Committee have the voting rights. This is to be done according with the UPEI Centres Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Centre Director shall be a tenured professor in the Faculty of Arts who is a KS expert with knowledge and experience in handling Korean\/Asian Studies and international programs, projects, funding applications, and grant agreements. To be selected within and by the Centre Advisory Committee, and this recommendation shall be submitted to the Dean of Arts and Associate Vice-President Research. The Director\u2019s term is a 5-year period and the incumbent Director is eligible for re-appointment to a maximum of five more years. The Director chairs the Centre Advisory Committee in all regards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CKS Director ensures that all research, scholarly, and related programs, activities, and events of the Centre \u201coperate in a manner consistent with University policies and procedures, and supportive of the positive reputation of the University.\u201d The Director shall also maintain effective communication with the Dean of Arts, AVPR, and VPAR, especially with respect to \u201cfunding, staffing, and negotiations concerning contracts and grants from funding organizations\u201d (Centres Policy, Appendix A, sec. 8, p. 7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n No external parties will interfere with the Centre\u2019s mission, structure, by-laws, management, and functions. Although the Centre is to be mostly funded externally<\/em>, UPEI will exercise its \u201coverarching principles\u201d and rights, including academic freedom, intellectual property, publication rights, support of students, and so forth.
