This Monday was radiant with sunlight. And the morning had a ribbon of robin\u2019s trill about it, to call us back from our dreams. James smiled across his pillow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cListen to that, Ellen!\u201d he said. Another run of notes flooded the air-waves of the sunny blue day. \u201cIt\u2019s what I\u2019ve been waiting for all winter\u201d he offered. And here over every wind of chimney and snowstorm, past every white drift and as well every delight of the season, the time of the singing birds was here. The words of Solomon\u2019s Springsong came to mind: \u201cMy beloved spoke and said to me\u2026 come away. For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come and the voice of the turtle is head in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is no time to be lying in bed\u201d James said, presently throwing off the covers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the sun burning a hole in our backs\u201d we giggled finishing the quote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The small terrier which is Gages pet and delight is to Granddaughter\u2019s mind \u201cthe cutest thing\u201d now. Mack was careful to close the door against his pup this morning when he lifted and carried a lamb the length of the sheep-shed. \u201cJust to see the ewe follow me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s as though she is marching\u201d he smiled over shoulder. \u201cShe\u2019s keeping time to my steps…There now\u201d he said putting the youngster down gently before her, \u201cyou were afraid I was going to harm your baby, weren’t you? You should know me better than that. He liked being in my arms. Why, he was so happy he didn\u2019t even bleat\u2026 They\u2019re something like little pigs\u201d he nodded soberly to us \u201cit\u2019s all in the way you pick them up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSee this, Mrs. Ellen!\u201d our friend sparrow called resting something on the rosebush beyond the window today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, what is it?\u201d we asked perring out. \u201cCord perhaps? Ravellings from feed-sacks the farmers open?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s better than that\u2014 look again!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy, it\u2019s a piece of yarn!\u201d we said softly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUh-huh!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSoft pink yarn!\u201d we exclaimed intrigued at the sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCall that pink! I\u2019d say it was a pastel blue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell whichever\u2026 where did you get it?\u201d
\u201cAgain I can\u2019t say\u201d he nodded with a mysterious grin. \u201cBut as the old lady in the fairytale said, \u201cThere\u2019s something in the wind somewhere I\u2019d say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd you won\u2019 tell?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCan\u2019t\u2014 to be exact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh dear\u201d we sighed turning away to our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today is going now\u2014 out on an amber sailboat of moon, over a silverblue sea. It came in on the warm thrill of a robin-to-be \u2014all in all, a good day<\/p>\n\n\n\n
