Her honours thesis involved conducting the mindfulness and strengths-based resource protocol, the <em>Tree of Life<\/em> protocol, while also incorporating\u00a0elements of EMDR therapy. Her thesis examined if the Tree of Life protocol could reduce academic stress while increasing the vividness of positive\u00a0memories and positive self-schemas through bilateral stimulation. She also has\u00a0experience as a research assistant on a geriatric study focusing on the\u00a0impact of music on age and cognition. Joelle has been actively\u00a0involved in community\u00a0based activities through her involvement with Big Brother Big Sisters; she was an in-school mentor for students who were undergoing life difficulties. Her interests surround improving the well-being of individuals by creating strategies that can help people overcome mental health issues.\u00a0Joelle is currently employed by Veterans Affairs Canada.
