Biography

Devon is a coastal ecologist with a background in marine engineering. She first earned her QL3 Marine Engineering Certificate at the Canadian Forces Fleet School in Esquimalt, British Columbia. She then earned her BSc with Honour’s and PhD at the University of Prince Edward Island, where she examined the behavioural and physiological ecology of coastal invertebrates in response to natural factor & artificial stressors. Following her PhD she did Postdoctoral work at UPEI funded by a Fisheries & Oceans collaborative grant to coordinate activities in the Basin Head Marine Protected Area involving work with the unique Giant Irish Moss strain found in the area. She subsequently helped in Dr. Pedro Quijon’s Coastal Ecology lab with the installation, maintenance, & sampling of an artificial reef project in Brackley Bay, PEI. She also collaborated with Parks Canada in a project evaluating the effects of the artificial revetment installation at Dalvay Beach, PEI, and the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, UK in a project looking at the effects of artificial light pollution on indigenous sea anemones.
