What Can I Expect to see on the NSO 2021 Schedule?

New Student Orientation (NSO) is the collection of welcoming events, activities, workshops, videos, and information sessions that take place before and during the first week of classes for new UPEI students. This year’s NSO will consist of hybrid programming, in other words, a combination of in-person and online activities in order to better accommodate students on and off Prince Edward Island.

TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE NSO 2021 SCHEDULE, KEEP READING!

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ ALL THE NOTES BELOW CAREFULLY BEFORE GETTING TO THE SCHEDULE RELEASES

NOTE FOR ALL-IN PERSON EVENTS

  1. All in-person events on the schedule are continued to be revised and reviewed by PEI Public Health and UPEI Health and Safety. Both of them continue to monitor the development of COVID-19 in the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) on a daily basis to ensure that the NSO 2021 Schedule remains safe for everyone. In the given case that they believe one of the events has to be rescheduled, modified, cancelled, or anything along those lines; please understand it’s for your own safety.
  2. Changes to the schedule may also occur in the event of bad weather on a day when an outdoors activity was plan.

Please understand that the schedule is ever-fluctuating due to the current immeasurable amount of variables the NSO Committee is working with. We appreciate your patience, and we hope this NSO can be enjoyed to its fullest!

NOTE FOR ALL ONLINE EVENTS

  1. All events scheduled for NSO are happening on the time-zone used for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. In other words, that is Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT). Please keep this in mind if you intend to attend our events.
  2. We ask of all participants to remember to mute themselves while a presentation is happening to eliminate white noise happening in the background that could impede with others’ enjoyment of the event.

NSO 2021 AND COVID-19

As all of you are aware, COVID-19 will be present and affect the entirety of New Student Orientation 2021 as well as your Fall Semester(s). We ask of our students to:

  1. Carefully read and remain on top of all and any communications sent by either UPEI or the NSO Committee in regards to updates regarding COVID-19 guidelines and regulations at UPEI.
  2. Get vaccinated before and during NSO if possible.
  3. To bring a non-medical mask to all in-person gatherings and events.
  4. To make use of the available bathroom stations and hand sanitizers which will be provided at every in-person gathering.
  5. To defer from attending any in-person NSO events in the given case that you are exhibiting or experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms.
  6. To respect social distancing measures in place at any given events or workshops.
  7. To follow the direction of staff and volunteers before and during all NSO related events for your own safety!

Our students’ health and safety is the main priority, and we hope (given all the clauses above) that you can enjoy an awesome New Student Orientation!

NSO 2021 Schedule

How To Read the NSO 2021 Schedule?

Before reading the entirety of the NSO 2021 Schedule, please make note of the following:
1. No, you do not need to be present for every single event to be considered part of NSO, simply, accommodate as many as you can within your schedule.
2. I have been getting some questions about signing up for “In-Person NSO” vs. “Online NSO”. Those are not a thing. NSO 2021 consists of hybrid programming, in other words, we hope students in PEI can enjoy assisting both in-person and online; and, students who are not in PEI can join our online events so that they may still be included and have interactive opportunities with “on island” students.
3. If you are a Leader/Volunteer, please inform your fellow squad members when you cannot make it to an event.

Here NSO 2021 Schedule has been color-coded to make it easier for all of you to understand. Here is the gist of it:
Events in Yellow are “In-Person” NSO Events.
Events in Green are “Online” NSO Events.
Events in Red are Events planned by other department(s) on-campus which we thought would be good for all of you be aware of. Everyone in UPEI has worked hard to prepare a fun and exciting Fall 2021 for you, and; I thought including their activities in the overarching NSO schedule would provide you folks with:
A. Choice for what you may want to spend your day doing!
B. More opportunities for you to hang-out with your squad or team members.
C. More opportunities to get even more involved and learn more about campus.
I really hope you enjoy the NSO Schedule, and let me know if you have any questions via email nso@upei.ca
