The CANSOFCOM Senior Design Team has been tasked\u00a0with the challenge of creating a passive and undetectable device capable of\u00a0estimating crosswind speeds through analysis of mirage. The measurement device\u00a0shall measure crosswind speeds up to 20 km\/h with an error margin of +\/-\u00a06.4 km\/h and shall be effective up to 0.9 km.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many different wind measurement systems are available commercially, but none meet the specific needs of the client. Propellor anemometers are the most common, but they cannot measure wind downrange. LIDAR (Light detection and ranging) can measure at long ranges, but is detectable by modern equipment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/projects.upei.ca\/wind\/files\/2022\/04\/image-2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-61\" width=\"151\" height=\"302\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project, which is a continuation of a previous Senior Design project, is still early in development.
