Dr. Etienne Côté
Internationally recognized as a leader in veterinary cardiology, Dr. Etienne Côté has devoted his career to advancing animal health through clinical excellence, education, research, and mentorship. Since joining the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2003, he has helped establish AVC as a centre of excellence in veterinary cardiology, developing one of Canada’s few accredited residency training programs in the specialty and mentoring generations of students, interns, and residents.
Dr. Côté’s contributions to veterinary medicine and higher education have earned widespread recognition. He is a recipient of the prestigious 3M National Teaching Fellowship, Canada’s highest recognition for post-secondary teaching, and was awarded Cornell University’s Daniel Elmer Salmon Award for Distinguished Alumni Service, the college’s highest alumni honour. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, reflecting his unique work building connections between human and veterinary medicine.
As the inaugural holder of the Dr. Etienne Côté Endowed Chair in Veterinary Cardiology, he is helping to create transformative opportunities for students, residents, clinicians, and researchers. Guided by a vision that combines innovation with compassion, Dr. Côté is committed to fostering collaboration, advancing knowledge, and ensuring that future veterinary professionals are equipped to lead with both expertise and empathy.
