Shadi ShabihKhani is a doctoral student in the UPEI Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program (class 2023).  Her research is focused on developing and adapting arts-based interventions with pre-adolescent immigrants. She completed her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in psychology from Iran. Her Master’s research focused on investigating the relationship between intimacy and Alexithymia on marital and sexual satisfaction. While in Iran she worked as a research assistant at an addiction treatment clinic and her clinical work also included acting as a community psychologist in the Health Center of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science. She was also involved in being a lead facilitator certified to implement the Strengthening Families Program (SFP 10-14) for the first time in Iran through the United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime. After moving to Canada in 2017 and before starting the PsyD program in 2019, Shadi was involved in several volunteer activities including the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown, Canadian Mental Health Association, and UPEI. She also founded Sister Music, a fusion band that combines East and West tunes. She is currently group co-facilitator with Joy Nnadi for HeART and Mind, a strengths-based group dedicated to support UPEI international students’ mental health through arts and other expressive mediums.
