The International Medieval Conference at Leeds, UK, held a session in July in honour of our late colleague Dr. Catherine Innes-Parker (English). The session focused on one of the research areas Catherine was internationally known for, the Wooing Group and its Descendants. The session, held virtually, was followed by a social hour for her colleagues and friends from around the world.

“We were so happy to have members of her family there, including her mother and two of her children. It was a wonderful indication of how much she was valued both for her scholarship and for her support for junior scholars.” 

A Festschrift in her honour is also in preparation.

On October 10, Dr. Shannon Murray (English) delivered the first in the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows seminar series with Lisa Dickson (UNBC) and Jessica Riddell (Bishop’s) on “A Hopeful Pedagogy: Shakespearean Case Studies.” Murray, Riddell, and Dickson also delivered a workshop entitled “Critical Hope in the 21st Century Classroom” to the Maple League of Universities Faculty Development group in August. 

Dr. Joshua MacFadyen (ACLC) has published a new article in Histoire sociale ~ Social History, (Fall 2021) in a Special Issue on “Agriculture, Food, and Fuel Markets in Canada, 1860s-1990s.” You can find his article, “These Well-Wooded Towns: Supplying Fuel Wood to Central Canadian Urban Markets, 1867-1921,” here: https://hssh.journals.yorku.ca/index.php/hssh/article/view/41162
