Community Connection

Terra Inspira is a National Geographic–supported arts education project created by Ryan Drew for climate-curious educators in Epekwitk / Prince Edward Island. Developed from community- and place-based research into climate change, biodiversity loss, shoreline erosion, and major weather events, the project translates urgent environmental questions into accessible, arts-integrated learning experiences for young people and their teachers. Through cross-curricular Fieldnotes, educator resources, self-directed inquiry, and hands-on creative activities, Terra Inspira invites learners to explore their relationship with land, water, weather, biodiversity, and planetary well-being while recognizing creativity as a practical civic force. Designed especially for K–6 classrooms but relevant to a wider public, the project models a form of pedagogy that is local without being narrow, imaginative without losing rigour, and hopeful without simplifying the scale of the climate crisis.
