Initially, the Atlantech Design team had anticipated building a full-scale prototype of the cover design, using familiar external manufacturers and suppliers. After consultation with the client and FSDE staff, it was ultimately determined to pursue a scaled prototype build using in-house machinery and materials. The single-door stainless steel model was built to half of its original length but was still an effective representation of the final design. The cover prototype was used for subsequent functional, structural, and water sealing testing which led to the development of the final detailed design.
