About

At UPEI two programs are have been offered in Nunavut, which promote continued learning for educators, a Master in Education in Leadership and Learning and a Certificate in Educational Leadership.

The guiding principles for the programs are based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuit values and knowledge. Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit are integrated with the values upheld at the Faculty of Education at UPEI. These values include respect, harmony, resourcefulness, serving and sustainability, inclusion, equity, social justice, diversity, learning and creativity, exploration, and aesthetic appreciation. All courses incorporate the Inuit worldview within the curriculum, and as well as in style of teaching.

Inuit perspectives are central in the programs, and the presence of Elders and Inuit leaders as guests in courses contribute to the cultural foundation and northern relevance of the courses. Priority is also placed on developing critical thinking skills and academic writing skills as they are exercised within the complex society and educational system in Nunavut.
