The Robertson Library has been central to my UPEI story for 40 years. As an undergraduate Arts student in the 1980’s the Robertson Library was where I studied, hung out and socialized. The staff supported me in my work on research projects and papers. The study rooms and carrels were the gathering spot for my peer group. We studied together, helped each other, played cards, hung out and grew up together. Long before the days of cell phones, we knew we could find each other at the Library.

As a member of the teaching faculty in the University 100 program, the Robertson Library remains a key resource for our students. The current staff are warm, welcoming and helpful. We collaborate closely to provide services and support for our first year students to develop university level academic research and writing skills. Our students are supported by the Library staff in everything from search strategies for using the many electronic databases to digging deep in the archives to find that just right image to support their project.
Our University 100 program aims to support students to develop necessary academic skills, develop a sense of community on campus and an identity as an academic. It warms my heart to stroll through the building and see students studying, connecting and socializing, resting and using all the spaces and equipment available. The Robertson Library facilities and staff are key to the success of our student experience at UPEI.
