NOTE: This section applies to returning students; in other words, you have completed at least 1 Fall semester in UPEI!
Welcome Week wouldn’t be possible without the incredible returning students who volunteer their time to help welcome our newest Panthers to campus.
As a Welcome Week Leader, you’ll play an important role in helping incoming students feel supported, included, and excited as they begin their university journey. Whether you’re answering questions, leading groups across campus, helping at events, or simply making someone feel welcome, you’ll be making a real difference during one of the most memorable weeks of the year.
Being a Welcome Week Leader is also a fantastic opportunity to:
- Build leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Gain valuable volunteer experience to strengthen your resume and future job applications.
- Become more connected with the UPEI community and campus life.
- Meet amazing students from across campus and create lasting friendships.

What Does a Welcome Week Leader Do?
Welcome Week Leaders are the friendly faces that help bring Welcome Week to life. Leaders work closely with the Welcome Week Coordinators and Campus Life staff to ensure events run smoothly while creating an exciting, welcoming, and inclusive environment for new students.
Responsibilities may include:
- Welcoming and supporting incoming students throughout the week.
- Helping students navigate campus and directing them to events and activities.
- Leading groups of students between events when needed.
- Creating an inclusive environment by ensuring everyone feels involved and engaged.
- Assisting with event setup, teardown, registration, and logistics.
- Supporting crowd management and helping events run safely and efficiently.
- Answering student questions or connecting them with the appropriate resources.
- Assisting with photography, social media content, or other event support when needed.
- Helping the Welcome Week Coordinators and Campus Life staff wherever extra support is needed.
No two days are exactly the same, and that’s part of what makes the role so rewarding!

Previous Welcome Week experience is an asset but is not required. We welcome both returning leaders and first-time applicants!
