The 2025 Gulf Project Meeting

Introduction

The “Ecologies, Knowledge, and Power in the Gulf of St. Lawrence Region c1500-Present” project, is a group that was launched in 2023 by Dr. Joshua MacFadyen and the late Dr. Elizabeth Mancke, both Canada Research Chairs interested in the Atlantic Region. It is supported by the Social Science and Research Council of Canada’s Partnership Development Program, and its purpose is to share research and develop new partnerships that examine history, environment, and what Dr. Mancke called “Spaces of Power” in the Gulf of St. Lawrence region. Dr. MacFadyen hosted the project’s first meeting in 2024, along with Drs. Erin Spinney and Lisa Chilton, at UPEI’s campus in St. Peters, PEI/Epekwitk.

In 2025 the project will meet in Sackville at Mount Allison University. Our host and local organizer for the 2025 meeting will be Dr. Lauren Beck, Canada Research Chair in Intercultural Encounter at Mount Allison.

A general CFP portal will remain open here for abstracts until Friday 30 May, 2025. Organizers will follow-up within a week of that to let participants know if the paper has been accepted.
