Explore to Soar is a free afterschool tutoring program, which focuses on boosting literacy and numeracy skills through play. The program provides fun and engaging activities for children to explore while considering their individual learning needs. We understand that the key to supporting students is through relationships and building confidence to help grow their love of learning.

“Our after-school tutoring program at Parkdale has been very successful, with parents eager to access the supports and students enjoying the engaging play-based learning activities. Our students are not only benefiting from literacy and math instruction, and furthering English language skills but also gaining a love of learning and building positive esteem towards school.”

Kristen Moore, Principal of Parkdale Elementary

The Explore to Soar pilot took place in Spring 2023 at 2 elementary schools in the Charlottetown area. A total of 42 children in grades 2-6 took part, and 5 UPEI Faculty of Education Students delivered the program.

We hope to grow this program next year to support five school locations through a collaboration with a new community partner. With current funding, we are on track to provide up to 90 students with afterschool tutoring support during Spring 2024.

Registration for Explore to Soar is through recommendation by the classroom and resource teachers along with school administration.
