Who Are We?

Jenny Campbell and Don Mowat are two, 4th-year Kinesiology majors at UPEI. During the Winter 2020 semester, both Jenny and Don were students in the Kinesiology Field Placement Course. In this course, students complete a combination of supervised and independent work while sharing their experiences in the classroom. As upper-year students in the Kinesiology program, they have acquired a strong foundation of knowledge regarding the role of physical activity and exercise in the prevention and management of various chronic conditions. The field placement course provided Jenny and Don with the opportunity to integrate and apply their learned understanding of exercise physiology and disease pathology to support exercise interventions in a variety of multidisciplinary environments.

UPEI Staff Training Program

Jenny and Don were both placed in a newly established exercise research study being performed at UPEI. This study was launched to determine the benefits of exercise for UPEI faculty and staff. Jenny and Don conducted baseline fitness testing, prepared exercise programs, and provided supervised personal training at the UPEI Fitness Centre to all study participants for the duration of the 2020 winter semester.

The “Legacy Project”

As a part of the curriculum for the field placement course, students are required to prepare a “Legacy Project”. This project is meant to be specific to the activities students are engaged in at their placements, while also benefitting the target population students have been working with. It is to be presented in a creative way that the host placements, client populations, and/or future students can put to good use.

Our Mission

Ultimately, our mission is to enhance the overall wellbeing of UPEI faculty and staff through exercise programming and encouraging increased daily physical activity. Throughout the last 4 years of studying Kinesiology, we have recognized some common barriers to exercise including:

  • Lack of time
  • Lack of resources, equipment, and information
  • Lack of motivation

Though these are common barriers to face, if provided with the proper resources, information and motivation, we believe anything is possible. This is why for our legacy project, we have decided to design a website for, not only UPEI faculty and staff, but for anyone who is interested in becoming more physically active!

This Website Will:

  • Inform you about the benefits of exercise and why it is important to stay active.
  • Describe a multitude of total-body exercises with video examples.
  • Break down and explain the components of an exercise program.
  • Provide you with sample workout programs for at home or at the UPEI Fitness Centre.
  • Build confidence in your abilities and motivate you to pursue a physically active lifestyle.
